A few days ago, a wild Siberian tiger was found in the 852 farm in Heilongjiang Province. On May 4, a reporter from Japan Net interviewed Zhou Shaochun, a wildlife expert, and said that it was confirmed as a male adult Siberian tiger through the identification of paw prints.
The reporter took a paw print, not a back photo.
At about 15 o’clock on April 21, four forestry workers in the 852 farm saw a huge animal drilling out of the Woods and walking on the field road on their way home. They were frightened by the vehicles and quickly got into the Woods. According to the description of forestry workers, this huge animal is about 2 meters long and 1.2 meters high, with a thick tail and a clear pattern. At that time, four people thought they should have seen a tiger, and found paw prints and body hair on the gravel road. The farm journalists who arrived later took paw prints, not the back reported by the media.
On April 23rd, Dr. Zhou Shaochun from the College of Wildlife Resources of Northeast Forestry University and Heilongjiang Wildlife Research Institute, and Lu Xiangdong, an associate researcher from Heilongjiang Wildlife Research Institute and Heilongjiang Endangered Animals Research Institute of State Forestry Administration, confirmed through on-site investigation that the animal seen by four employees was indeed a wild Siberian tiger. The shape of paw prints and the stride of footprint chain were measured on the spot, and it was confirmed as the footprint of a male adult Siberian tiger.
It can be concluded that it is a Siberian tiger by paw prints.
On the afternoon of May 4th, our reporter interviewed Dr. Zhou Shaochun from Heilongjiang Wildlife Research Institute. Dr. Zhou has been engaged in the research on the distribution area and quantitative dynamics of Siberian tigers for many years. According to his introduction, paw print judgment is an international animal judgment method with almost no error.
In recent years, wild Amur tigers have appeared frequently in Heilongjiang Province.
In recent years, the wild Siberian tiger has been found many times in Heilongjiang Province, and it appeared four times in the eastern forest region in 2004. In 2006, in Suiyang Forestry Bureau of Heilongjiang Province, there were many incidents in which cattle and sheep were eaten and bitten by Siberian tigers. In January, 2007, the Northeast Tiger was found in Nuanquanhe Forest Farm of Suiyang Forestry Bureau, Muling Forest Farm and Wupao Forest Farm of Yingchun Forestry Bureau in Heilongjiang Province. This year, this wild Siberian tiger appeared near the farm. Dr. Zhou said that the Siberian tiger generally lives in the area where shrubs and weeds are overgrown, and rarely appears on the farm. This appearance may be related to the grazing of sheep around the farm.
There are only more than 400 wild Siberian tigers, most of which are in Russia, and less than 20 in China, which are first-class protected animals. At present, there are only 12-14 wild Siberian tigers distributed in Heilongjiang Province. (Lu Yunqiang)
