Is Baidu search engine dead？

The article "Search Causes Baidu to Be Dead" written by Teacher Fang Chengcheng has been screened in the workshop. I accidentally brushed this article when I was in a traffic jam, and then I finished reading it by waiting for the traffic lights. Originally, I didn’t want to say anything more, but this article was a bit powerful. A fellow villager sent a WeChat asking me what I thought, so I simply threw a brick to attract jade to say something about my opinion.

Teacher Fang’s article can be summarized as follows: Baidu uses search function to promote its own products, such as Baidu Encyclopedia, Baijiahao, Baidu Post Bar and iQiyi. Simply put, Baidu is using its search to promote its own products, the largest search platform in the Chinese world, and it has become an internal search tool for Baidu’s whole family.

There is nothing wrong with this logic. But the conclusion has become "the huge Chinese Internet has fallen to such a state that there is not even a search engine."

How can you say that? Isn’t there sogou and 360?

I think what Teacher Fang means is that Baidu is no longer the fun for users to explore Chinese websites and new things, but has become a closed, selfish and rotten platform.

Fang and I are from Anqing, Anhui Province. Arguably, there are so many people in Anqing. Why do I know about him? The main reason is that he attended the science experimental class in Anqing No.1 Middle School. There are only four experimental classes in the province, and the people inside are either Peking University Tsinghua or rattan school, which can be said to be the elite of the elite. I was particularly envious in those days, because I studied poorly, and Teacher Fang lived up to expectations. I was admitted to the highest institution of higher learning, but unexpectedly became a reporter after graduation.

Ok, digress, what I want to say is that everything is elite from the elite perspective of Mr. Fang. If you have a slight impression, you should remember that Mr. Fang wrote an article "We live in a dung-like information environment", which is also fake news, but the gun is aimed at the American media.

The elite has the elite’s access to content, and the people have the people’s access to content. However, the elite should not require a search product for the public to become an elite and niche product, which is not in line with commercial interests and implies that the media should guide the people’s direction.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the content of Baijiahao. Baijiahao does have a low quality of content, and there are fake news and headline parties, but will it be solved if it is replaced by People’s Daily and Sina News?

A person who watches story meetings may love to watch story meetings all his life, while a person who watches Caixin may not watch story meetings all his life. Why should the tastes of two people be mixed together?

Another question is actually worth discussing, that is, was the stationmaster era before Baidu very good? Not really. At that time, the rise of personal webmasters, who would toss computers, all set up their own websites, such as TOM, which had a large amount of traffic, and also had a small personal website. At that time, even the filing was not needed. Simply put, it was a vast world with great potential.

So how did the webmaster produce content? I know a webmaster. He told me how he "numbered" in those days: he bought a batch of books in a bookstore, such as mechanical engineering, and then hired a group of people to carry the contents of the books to a computer to make websites with various themes, and then hung them up in advertising alliance. As long as someone came in, he just sat and waited for the money.

What’s more, hang a beautiful woman or seductive copy on the homepage of the website to lure you into it.

There’s nothing new under the sun. Now it’s almost the same from the media as when I made a website. Flow is king, simple and rude, simple things are repeated, and leeks are cut from back to small pots of tea, so someone pays the bill.

As for Baidu’s diversion to the whole family barrel, to be honest, I personally feel that there is nothing wrong with Baidu’s diversion to its product matrix, and it is just as naive as asking Wang Jianlin why he only spends money on Wang Sicong. But on this issue, I agree with Mr. Fang Cheng’s point of view. Commercial companies should really consider the user experience and should not put their strategic objectives above the user experience.

Baidu is forced by today’s headlines, and advertising revenue is Baidu’s lifeline. However, with the rise of headlines, the cakes grabbed are actually Baidu’s customers, and the sales of headlines are particularly strong, so Baidu is desperately pushing information flow, and the content foundation of information flow is Baijiahao.

The current logic is equivalent to Baidu PC leading traffic to Baijiahao, while Baijiahao grows, and the information flow will follow, while Baidu app, the core of Baidu Mobile, is the main battlefield of information flow, which is a bit like the left hand making the right hand. You know this.

In 19 years, the promotion budget of Baidu app is 400 million yuan. Please feel this strength.

As for using Baidu to search for information, everyone has his own way. I have always advocated scientific internet access, but it is not Google’s omnipotent theory. It should be said that everyone should have their own familiar access to information and ways. If a thing is stupid enough to only use Google or Baidu, then this person is a sign of low ability. I generally don’t recruit people who ask Baidu everything. Of course, everything is the same as asking Google.

Generally, my interview question is this: Will you use Google over the wall? Yes, ok. Please name more than five websites or apps that you often visit besides Google Facebook Twitter. I don’t know. Ok, ask my assistant to get the taxi fare, and you can get out.

I wrote in my own editing manual that I should be good at using Zhihu, Weibo, WeChat search, major news websites, Reddit, and even quora, soup is not hot, watercress, get, tubing and other channels.

More refined, you even need to be familiar with some preferences of KOL (called influencer abroad), so as to get information quickly.

Friedman loved popularizing economics in his early years, often appeared on TV and wrote columns for newspapers. In his later years, he said with regret that he had worked hard to popularize economics for so many years and found that people’s understanding of economics was still standing still.

Therefore, I think it is better to give freemen some space to see more things they like, and not to force them to see something that seems correct, valuable and meaningful under the slogan of political correctness.
