On April 22nd, The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) was informed by Ai Yuejin students and the Propaganda Department of Nankai University Party Committee that Ai Yuejin, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Marxist College of Nankai University and the founder of military discipline of Nankai University, died in Tianjin at 22: 18 on April 21st, 2016 at the age of 59.
In addition, Ai Yuejin also served as the deputy director of the Military Teaching Steering Committee of Tianjin Higher Education Institutions, the vice president of Tianjin Sinology Research Association, and the director of Tianjin National Defense Education Association.
According to publicly reported information, Ai Yuejin, born in 1958, after graduating from Nankai University, stayed in school to work in the Youth League Committee, and then set up a military teaching and research section. In 2006, Ai Yuejin successfully applied for the only master’s degree in military science in non-military colleges in China, and was the founder and academic leader of Nankai University.
In addition to military thought, Ai Yuejin’s main research fields include international situation and hot issues, eloquence, etiquette, success, leadership, quality development and professional ethics, etc. He has served as a judge of the National College Debate of CCTV and the Beijing Finals of the International University Debate Competition.
Since January, 2016, the original major of "Military Science and Military Thought" in Nankai University has been changed to the major of "Study of Marxism in China" in Nankai Institute of Marxism Education, and Ai Yuejin continues to be the tutor of master and doctoral students. The research direction of this major is Mao Zedong’s military thought, and it enrolls 4 master’s students and several doctoral students every year.
In an interview with Ai Yuejin in 2009, The Daily News questioned that "some people think that some of your (Ai Yuejin’s) views are somewhat random, and some of your arguments are not reliable, even copied from tabloids".
In response, Ai Yuejin said, "I have read some materials, made choices, used them for me, and can justify myself. This is normal in academic circles. Of course, I will try my best to be objective, but everyone has his own ideas, and no one can interfere in this. I am just a teacher or a speaker, not a preacher, not a saint. What I say does not have to be recognized and accepted by all people, and that is impossible. "
Later, Ai Yuejin also stressed, "I don’t want to be a panacea, and the goal of the sage is too high, but as far as my personal philosophy and personality are concerned,’ drilling only one door’ is not my philosophy, so I have to continue to work hard."
